On June 13th & 14th the Park Derochie “PD Slow Riders” team, joined close to 2000 other riders in the 2015 MS Bike Tour – Leduc to Camrose. This year’s event was the largest to date, with the most cyclists registered and most money fundraised. Raising over $2 million and counting, this year’s Leduc to Camrose tour is the largest fundraising event the MS Society of Canada has ever seen.
MS is a disease which is more prevalent in Canada than anywhere else in the world and Park Derochie is proud to report that their team of 44 registered riders and 11 stalwart volunteers worked together to raise roughly $60,000 for Multiple Sclerosis research and services.
The PD Slow Riders team, of Park Derochie employees and friends, made the 172 km trek from Leduc to Camrose and back, riding from checkpoint to checkpoint enjoying the scenery and challenging themselves for the cause. In Camrose they enjoyed the afternoon relaxing together in Rider Village, trying to keep warm in the PD Slow Riders tent when they weren’t out playing games, all the while enjoying good food, drink and company. Gathering once more in the evening the riders enjoyed the MS Banquet, live entertainment and dancing before heading to bed for a well-deserved rest.
Sunday morning they were out on the road again headed back towards Leduc for a Finish Line BBQ. Although they faced rain, broken bikes, sore bodies and spent most of the day Sunday pedaling directly into 37 km/hr winds the PD Slow Riders are not only excited to ride again next year they are already recruiting more team members.
Our sincere thanks go out to everyone who supported the PD Slow Riders 2015 efforts. Every contribution makes a difference in the fight against MS!
