Moose on the Loose

Fall is coming quick and it is time to pay extra attention while driving – especially at dusk and dawn. Moose are going to be starting to rut (the period of time when certain ungulates mate – e.g. moose, deer, elk) soon and will be even more unpredictable than usual. If you see a vehicle stopped on or near the highway, the driver may have spotted a moose, so be cautious. Avoid driving at night if possible, and if you must drive, slow down. Moose are extremely difficult to see at night. Ensure that the headlights on your vehicle are working and kept clean, along with the windshield. Scan both sides of the highway with your lights on high beam unless overtaking other traffic, and pay attention to warning signs.
