Coatings - Metalizing

metalizingMetalizing is an alternative coating for structural steel, piping, etc. that protects steel for decades longer than paint alone. This is a proven process, which has been used around the world for over 90 years. Steel of every shape and size may be metalized either in-shop before construction or on-site. When evaluating life-cycle costs, metalizing is the most effective coating for protecting steel structures, such as bridges, available today.

The metalizing process always begins with proper surface preparation. Next, aluminum wire or zinc wire is melted using an electric arc or gas flame spray gun. Clean, compressed air strips droplets of molten metal from the wire - depositing these particles onto the steel and forming the protective coating. This sprayed metal coating is a barrier and galvanic coating in one. A single metalized coating can protect steel for 20 to 40 years or longer depending upon the application, coating thickness and sealing.

Park Derochie was the first contractor to apply metalizing in Western Canada. We currently own and operate 8 Flame spray units and 3 Arc units.
